Initial Problem:
OS Installation will fail with message
"Kernel panic - not syncing , attempted to kill init" right at the beginning.
Solution
At the first installation screen, Hit F1 instead of Enter and type the following at the boot prompt:
linux acpi=off
Note: Possible other solutions
linux acpi=off noapic
linux noapic
linux noapic nolapic
